40-Day Prayer Challenge

Prayer - Personal

Prayer - NLC

Between now and the end of 2008, I want to encourage you (even challenge you) to pray this prayer for yourself and NLC.  Let’s ask BIG and believe BIG!  Keep track of your blessings and how you are a blessing to others.  Feel free to share some of your stories with me.

1015!

Just a fun milestone to share with you …we broke1,000 on a regular (non-holiday) weekend!

We have a permit!

We have received our “Use Permit!”  This allows us to move ahead with the project.

I thought you would also want to know that, in light of current economic changes (since we first undertook the project), we have reviewed our need and plan for this building.  After more prayer and thorough review, we have again confirmed not only our need of the space, but we have confirmed that this plan is still our best economic means to add space.

We should be able to order the structure before the end of the year and have it functional by Easter 2009.

We also reviewed this plan in light of of our commitment to starting an extension location (in San Ramon) for our weekend services.  Since the San Ramon mission is about reaching new people (not simply shifting existing people from Alamo to San Ramon) our multi-site plan in no way changes our need for extra space in Alamo.

10 More Days

Our county meeting went well.  Our “Next Step” project has been approved, pending a 10 day waiting period to give opportunity for people to appeal this.  I am not sure what appeal process involves, should that happen, or how long it would take.  But either way, it looks favorable.

With a record number of kids this past weekend, we desperately need the extra space.

Again, the plan is to move administrative and adult classes and groups out to the new space, and reallocate those vacated spaces inside the building to kids and teens.

Continue to pray all goes smoothly.  Thanks!

Post-Election Perspective

“This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

Regardless of who (or what you voted for), if you are a Christ-follower, TODAY is another day to glorify God with your words, attitude and deeds.  Represent HIM well!

Here are a few ways I intend to do that, as it relates to my faith and politics:

  • I will again be grateful that I live in a country where I had the chance to vote.
  • I will pray for President-Elect Obama, because scripture teaches us to pray for those in leadership – not just pray for those we did or did not vote for.
  • I will speak optimistically about our future. Regardless of whether or not every one (or everything) I voted for won, I refuse be a gloater or a complainer. Both of those behaviors tend to divide. I know that the kingdom of God is neither Democrat nor Republican (nor Independent, Green, or any other political title). I also know that God has worked through (or around) every kind of leader in every kind of political and moral landscape. Now is no different.
  • I also am excited to see what benefits can come to our country through this historic election that broke a racial glass ceiling.
  • And finally, I want to offer you one of the best resources I have come across recently to help us form a healthy perspective of Faith and Politics. The following link is to a fellow Church Planter, who started a church in Washington DC. He and I not only share the same affiliation, the church he started has a number of things similar to NLC. Since he has a congregation with people employed by, and highly engaged in, the political segment (both Republicans and Democrats),  he is uniquely blessed … or challenged (I am not sure which) by that reality. Whichever it is, he’s put together a fabulous talk on how Christians should view politics. Even though this talk was given prior to the election, it is worth checking out now. The video also begins with some very funny stuff! Here’s the link. Enjoy

Near its conclusion he adds this great quote I’ll include here:

“What is more important than how we vote on November 4th is how we live on November 3rd and November 5th.  We vote every day with our lives.  We vote every day with our feet, our hands, our lips, and our wallets.  … ultimate change does not happen once every four years.”
